The Okefenokee Heritage Center in Waycross, GA is proud to fulfill the needs of our community by providing art and history outreach and education. Art education has historically helped students improve their grades, find fulfillment in their lives, and prepare them for careers.

Starting in January the Okefenokee Heritage Center will be providing art and music lessons for students ages 4 through adults.

Crystal Murphy will be offering instruction on violin, piano, fiddle, ukulele, guitar and more beginning in January. Crystal was born in North Ga mountains where she learned to play bluegrass fiddle. She is a graduate of the University of North Georgia with a degree in violin and music education. She has played with the Coastal Symphony for 5 years. She enjoys playing weddings and special events in the community. Lessons are for all ages and will begin in January. $20 for a half hour session. All ages are welcome.

Angela Carstens will be teaching private art lessons as well as a class about art history and God in Art for our younger students. Angela is a native of West Palm Beach, FL with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on Art History. Art has always been a strong passion and talent of mine. Her favorite mediums to work with include chalk pastels, pencil drawing, and acrylic painting.Students will be learning more in depth about art history, and covering the basic skills to build a strong art foundation for life. Group classes are $20 an hour and private lessons are $25 an hour.

Preston King, fine arts major from Valdosta State University, will be teaching a class for adults starting the third week of January. This class will teach beginners basics about different mediums of painting with different types of materials, from pastels to acrylics and oils. It will also encourage those who are experienced to expand their knowledge into different methods of paint. The class will also include opportunities to learn about the art of plein air painting. One hour sessions are $25.
