The Okefenokee Heritage Center is proud to host a yoga class focused on healing. Teacher Mary Lewis, a registered teacher with the yoga alliance, will begin teaching Saturday, September 8th, from 11 am – 12 pm.
“I want to take away some of the stigma of yoga. This class will include modifications and chair poses for people to participate at their own pace and comfort.”
As a nurse for 34 years, Lewis has worked with emergency patients, mental health, and psychiatric care. Her gentle demeanor and knowledge makes her an excellent teacher and coach.
Mary has been trained/licensed to teach Zumba Gold, which is low-impact dance targeting older adults, those with medical issues and those who may be differently abled or simply wanting to avoid the risks of high-impact dance/movement. In 2014 she received her 200 hour certification to teach yoga, with a specialization in Kundalini yoga, and is a registered teacher with Yoga Alliance. In 2014 she became a certified facilitator for Y12SR groups – the yoga of 12 step recovery.
Classes will run September 8th – 29th from 11 am – 12 pm and then return the month of October.
Space is filling up fast. Classes are $10 for one session or $32 for a month. Students are advised to complete a pre-screening by calling 912-285-4260 or emailing [email protected] for more information. Students are required to bring their own yoga mat and a small blanket or afghan for different stretches and poses. Come experience yoga in a calm and peaceful environment surrounded by local art and history.
