Come out to The Okefenokee Heritage Center on Friday, July 29, 2022 at 6:00 pm and meet our current hometown hero’s. Ware County High Gator Baseball Players. They had an amazing year and are looking forward to another this school year.
After meeting our Gators we will be showing the life of Jackie Robinson. There is no charge for this event. Donations for the Okefenokee Heritage Center are always gladly accepted but it’s all for your enjoyment and entertainment.
Well we have a fantastic opportunity for you to learn a little history about baseball in our own hometown. How many of you knew that what is now our Atlanta Braves was once Waycross Braves being a minor league team owned out of Milwaukee and sold to an owner in Canada before coming full circle back to Georgia.
We as a community should be proud of our Memorial Stadium that hosted games that the like of Hank Arron played in. Jackie Robinson made his appearance in Waycross on his way up the ladder to becoming an American Hero.
