Artful Harmonies
OHC Art Guild & OHC Photography Guild
An exhibition of works by members of the OHC Art and Photography Guilds using music as their inspiration. The works are as diverse and creative as the music these artist capture with their paints and cameras.

Community Choir Concert

Location: Trinity United Methodist Church, 1005 Church Street, Waycross, GA.
A concert of original compositions by local composers performed by area singers and musicians directed by Mr. Willie Character.

August 10 & 17, 2013
Cigar Box Banjo Workshop
10am-12pm
Workshop taught by artist/musician Robert Johnston in which participants will create a cigar box banjo. There is a long tradition of making musical instruments from objects at hand in rural communities where store bought instruments and resources were scarce. Participants will give a concert for the public at a later date.

Hoboken Sacred Harp Sing
Hoboken Sacred Harp Singers – David Lee, songleader

Monthly sing by the Hoboken Sacred Harp singers who have been meeting monthly since the 1930s. Sacred Harp singing is a form of shaped note singing which has a history in our community dating back to 1821. Visitors to the sing are welcome. No admission charge.

New Harmonies Waycross Grand Opening
10am-4pm
Opening ceremony for the New Harmonies Exhibit. A welcome and ribbon cutting will be held from 10-11am featuring addresses by local/state government officials and arts dignataries and recognition of figures from Okefenokee music history. A reception will follow. Throughout the afternoon there will be performances by area musicians and musical groups, including the Hoboken Sacred Harp Singers, Waycross Brass and other local performers.

New Harmonies: Celebrating American Roots Music Exhibit
A traveling exhibition produced by the Smithsonian Institution exploring early traditions of American music. Accompanying exhibits- Georgia Harmonies: Celebrating Georgia Roots Music produced by the Georgia Humanities Council and Okefenokee Harmonies: Celebrating Okefenokee Music and Its Musical Traditions produced by the New Harmonies Waycross Partners will also be on view.

Local Legend Spotlight- Dave Griffin

Location: Plant Café, 504 Plant Avenue, Waycross, GA
A concert by local musician and producer of the Gram Parsons Guitar Pull at a café that was visited by Elvis Presley after one of his concerts in Waycross. Griffin will play his original songs as well as those made famous by Gram Parsons. An added treat will be the tables and counter which will be decorated with posters and memorabilia illustrating the rich musical history of Waycross. A seat dedicated to Elvis will be saved throughout the run of New Harmonies.

16th Annual Gram Parsons Guitar Pull
A three day festival tribute to country rock legend and Waycross native Gram Parsons. The festival features some of the finest country rock performers in the country. This year’s headliners are Levi Lowrey, Ian Dunlap, and Fayssoux Starling McLean. On site RV and primitive camping. Food, arts, crafts, clothing and music vendors.
